It’s SO important to take time for yourself.
Here are six ways you can fill up your cup, take some personal time, and empower yourself to live your best life:
What is that skill or activity you’ve always wanted to learn? Or how about that activity you did every day in high school, but you haven’t done in years? Whether it’s watercolor painting, pottery, or volleyball, find something fun to do that makes you smile and make a point to do that thing once a week or, at least, once a month. Having a hobby is a great way to relieve stress and focus on something with no pressure. You don’t have to choose something you can be great at doing. Simply try something new or something you enjoy, and take your mind of the pressures of work and your weekly schedule.
You may not realize this, but spending time outside is so so good for your health. Go for a walk, sit on your balcony, or make a picnic every once in a while. The fresh air will rejuvenate you and a little bit of sunshine can actually improve your mood. Even if you’ve got a busy schedule, you can do little things to get some outside time like eating your lunch outside in the parking lot.
Ok, we know it’s hard. Our phones are addicting, and we constantly want to know what our friends and followers are doing. However, think about how much time you spend each day on social media. We’re not saying you need to go and delete all of your social accounts, but maybe cut back on some of that time you spend scrolling and take a mental break. You’ll be surprised to find how much more time you have to simply sit back and breathe, (or time to take on a new hobby like we mentioned on #1!) when you cut down your social media time.
Books are beautiful. Seriously. When you read a book it’s almost like you are leaving your current reality and travelling to a new place where you are inspired. Take some time to start a new book or read the book that’s been sitting on your table for the past two years. This can be a biography of someone you look up to, or a fun fiction book to get your creative juices flowing. Even if you just read for 15 minutes before bed, you are giving your mind a break and a chance to focus on something enjoyable and enriching.
Yes, exercise can be hard work, but it’s also a way of taking time for yourself. When you exercise, you are showing your body that you care. You will get your blood flowing which will help decrease stress AND improve your mood. Exercising will also help you get a good night’s sleep. If you haven’t exercised in a while, it will be hard to get started. But, trust us, it’s TOTALLY worth it.
Our last suggestion is to take a REAL vacation. If you have the resources to go to a fun or exotic place, then go for it! Yes, that means taking time off of work, but at the end of the day, a vacation will give you the energy to work even harder. If you don’t have the resources to travel, don’t worry. You can still get away on a budget! A vacation can be simple. You can take the bus to the beach, drive to the nearest town, or simply go to a nearby spot that you haven’t explored before. A vacation doesn’t need to be expensive.
We hope you will take this list and seriously consider taking some time for yourself. You will benefit and the people around you will benefit, too!
