Society is constantly telling us to be more realistic. Most of us have had a conversation with someone who told us to “be more reasonable” or “make the decision that will give you the most money” or “don’t get your hopes up”. Well, maybe you can’t go through your entire life with your head in the clouds, but at the same time how much would it hurt to allow yourself to soar and dream big?
There is a beautiful quote by author Marianne Williamson that says, “We ask ourselves, 'Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?' Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world.”
Yes, yes yes! We couldn’t agree more. You have a unique and specific purpose on this earth, and it will be impossible to live out your purpose if you don’t allow yourself to dream big. Even if you don’t feel like it, you are a child of God. God is the powerful, loving, and ultimate source of all creation, and YOU are His child. So why should you place limits on what you can do and who you can be on this earth?
Have you ever had a dream of a place you want to move to, a business you want to start, or a song you want to write? Well go out and do it! Going after your dreams does not mean instant success. It may not even mean success in ten years. But if there is a dream in your heart it is there for a reason, and the journey to achieve that dream is just as important as the dream itself.
Allow yourself to dream and you will be surprised where life might take you. God did not create us for small things. He created us to be great so that others can see His greatness through us. But, you must take that first step and open your heart to the possibility. Even if your dream seems impossible there is still hope because God is Lord of the impossible. Once you take that first step, you are proving that you are ready for God to come in and do what only He can do. And guess what. Sometimes, the first step is as simple as saying “yes” to that dream.
There is nothing to lose! The world tricks us into thinking that all we want is security- a good job, a steady income, a perfect relationship...the list goes on and on. Yes, those are good things and yes we desire for each one of you to have great jobs and relationships. BUT, if the only thing you focus on is building a safe and secure life for yourself, you will miss out on the big and beautiful things God has planned for your life. “Seek first the kingdom of Heaven and all these things will be given to you.”
So go ahead. Dream big and live free.
